Quick-Crate® FAQ

Are your Quick-Crates heat treated and ISPM-15 export compliant?

ISPM only regulates solid wood products and since at Quick-Crate® we use only plywood and/or OSB, our crates are exempt from these regulations. Because of the heat treating process used during the manufacturing of plywood and OSB our Quick-Crates fully ISPM-15 export compliant. They can be shipped worldwide without worry of problems with customs.

ISPM-15 Regulations: page 7, section 2.1

" The following articles are of sufficiently low risk to be exempted from the provisions of this [ISPM-15] standard:

-wood packaging made wholly of processed wood material, such as plywood, particle board, oriented strand board [OSB] or veneer that has been created using glue, heat or pressure, or a combination thereof."

How much weight can a reusable Quick-Crate® hold?

Our reusable Quick-Crates have been certified by the US Army to transport 4,000 lbs of live ammunition per crate and stack 3 crates high when loaded. That translates to a stacking capacity of 12,000 lbs. Our crates have phenomenal strength despite the fact that they are made only with 3/4" plywood panels. Each specific crate's load capacity may differ based on the product you are shipping and weight distribution. And although we've thoroughly tested our crates we encourage you to test your Quick-Crate® for your specific application.

What is the difference between a reusable and Economy Quick-Crate®?

The reusable Quick-Crate® is constructed completely from 3/4" plywood and has bolted pallet blocks for maximum longevity over the course of many return cycles. The Economy Quick-Crate® is constructed from 3/4" OSB material, has nailed pallet blocks and a plywood base panel for durability during shipping. The 1-way crate is designed to be used in a situation where getting the crates back is not feasible or as a cost-effective alternative, without sacrificing the strength of the reusable system. Typically you will see an average drop in price of 30-40% with the Economy crate versus the reusable crate, depending on size and volume.

How much space is saved by the collapsibility feature?

Quick-Crates collapse to about 9 inches high. And unlike traditional crates or metal racks, which do not collapse, the Quick-Crate® system collapses at a ratio of about 5 to 1 with crates measuring 45" or taller. This translates to a significant reduction in freight cost by being able to fit 5 times as many crates in a truck for a return cycle. Collapsibility also allows customers to use 1/5 of the warehouse space as compared with traditional non-collapsible crates.

What options are available with a Quick-Crate®?

We offer many customized options to fit almost any situation. Our options include custom dunnage, lift handles, vertical dividers, color codes, painting, ramp panels, permanately fixed casters, custom cradles, stenciling, barcoding and more. Our engineers are experienced and are able to accommodate virtually any of your specific crating needs.

How do you attach and remove the clips?

The simplicity of the clips is one of the most attractive elements of our crates. A Quick-Crate® can be assembled or disassembled in 2-3 minutes. To attach a clip, fit one end of the clip in the machined slot and push it with the heel of your hand until it snaps into the other slot. To remove, take our removal tool and fit it into the raised pocket on the clip and pry it off. Please see our assembly sheet PDF for more information.

How many trips will a reusable Quick-Crate® last?

We have had customers report using Quick-Crates for 50 and more shipping cycles with only normal cosmetic wear and tear. The 3/4" plywood allows the crates to withstand the harshest of handling conditions over time. And unlike traditional crates, our reusable Quick-Crates have a nailed and bolted base for extended longevity in freight terminals, where crates can often and unavoidably get knocked around.

What is the lead time for a Quick-Crate®?

Lead time is something in which we pride ourselves. Since all aspects of engineering and manufacturing are done in house we are able to cut our lead times to a minimum. Any crates ordered from our stock sizes will be shipped within 1-2 days. Custom crates will vary depending on complexity and volume, but we are typically capable of producing 300-500 crates per week.

Can I have a single replacement panel made if one gets damaged?

If a crate gets damaged, you can simply order the required replacement panel without the expense of replacing the entire box. At Quick-Crate®, all panel programs are stored in our CAD system, which allows for quick and easy replacement orders.

Can I buy just the clips?

If you lose a clip we will be happy to replace it, but we are unable to sell the clips by themselves. This is because our clips will not perform at a satisfactory level if not used in conjunction with our precision machined panels. We would not be able to guarantee the crate's integrity or safety.
